Abstract

743,077. Steam superheaters; tubular heatexchangers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. March 5, 1954 [March 19, 1953], No. 7649 /53. Classes 64(3) and 123(3). A tubular steam, &c. heater element which provides for the equal heating of two separate streams of steam &c., comprises a pair of inlet headers P, S, and a pair of outlet headers P<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>1</SP> arranged side by side, the individual headers of each pair being connected alternately by short tubes T to closely spaced cross tubes C. Correspondingly positioned cross tubes are interconnected by a number of single-bend, nested U-tubes U, the arrangement being such as to form a series of closely spaced tube platens which in service are disposed, for example, in the furnace gas flow path in a steam generator. Steam, &c., flowing from header P to header P<SP>1</SP> and that flowing from header S to header S<SP>1</SP> is subjected to the same heat treatment irrespective of varying factors such as the state of cleanliness of the tubes. The heater is particularly suitable for use as a reheater in the marine boiler described in Specification 743,078 wherein steam from two turbines must be reheated to the same temperature.
