Abstract

743,070. Gas meters. PARKINSON & COWAN, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1953 [Dec. 11, 1952]. No. 31404/52. Class 54. In a gas meter having two or more pairs of measuring compartments, the compartments of each pair being separated by movable diaphragms 18, 20, Fig. 3, a division plate 14 separates a top chamber 16 from the lower portion of the meter and each of the pairs of measuring compartments except one is bounded by an internal casing 38 open at the top and secured to the plate 14 in a gas-tight manner. In the preferred embodiment, two pairs of measuring chambers are employed and one pair is enclosed by the casing 38, the upper periphery of which is provided with flanges 40 connected by bolts 42, Fig. 2, to the plate 14. The diaphragms, which are attached between metal discs 28, 30 connected to flag rods 32, 34, are mounted on pan members 24 provided with gasways 22 secured by bolts to the plate 14. The latter and top and bottom portions 10, 12 of the meter casing are formed by pressings. The flag rods 32, 34 pass through stuffing-boxes 36 and are connected by links 66, 68, 74, 76 and an adjustable pin 70 on a tangent arm to the valve covers 60 which are thus oscillated about pivots 78 to control valves of the threeported transfer type. Two casings such as that shown at 38 may be employed, the space external to the casings being used for outlet gas. Specifications 743,071 and 743,072 are referred to.
