Abstract

The invention comprises alkylamino-propionyl anilides having 2 : 4 or 2 : 4 : 6 methyl groups in the benzene residue, local anaesthetic preparations containing them and a method for preparing them by the reaction between a methyl substituted aniline, an alkylamine and propionic acid substituted suitably in the a -position and the COOH group. IN examples a -isopropyl- and a -n-propyl-amino-propionyl-2 : 6-dimethylanilides and a -ethylamino-propionyl-2 : 4 : 6-trimethyl anilide are obtained by the action of the corresponding a -brompropionyl-anilide on isopropylamine, n-propylamine and ethylamine. Specifications 634,072 and 634,073 are referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises a local anaesthetic comprising as an essential ingredient an a-alkylamino-propionylmethylanilide of the formula:- <FORM:0741113/VI/1> in which R1 may be hydrogen or methyl and R2 ethyl, n-propyl or iso-propyl, (see Group IV(b)). Specifications 634,072 and 634,073, [both in Group IV(b)], are referred to.
