Abstract
740,702. Road scrapers. JOHNSTON BROS. (CONTRACTORS) Ltd., and SOUTHGATE, R. E. Feb. 5, 1954 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 28165/52. Class 107. A road surface scraping machine comprises a chassis carrying scraping means arranged oblique to the direction of travel of the chassis and in contact with the ground. Blades 39 are carried on arms 36 pivoted at 35 in oblique overlapping arrangement, a weight 38 holding them in contact with the ground: The blades have a limited pivotal movement about the arms 36, being carried on socket portions 47. The blades can be lifted off the ground by cables 40 on drums 41. These drums can be rotated separately or simultaneously by a drum 43 and winch 45. Each blade also has a piece of chain 49 on which it can be suspended. The blades have a renewable edge 46 which may be of rubber or similar yielding material. The chassis may be self-propelled, pushed or trailed. A castor wheel 16 supports the chassis when uncoupled from its attendant vehicle.
