Abstract

694,027. Road scarifiers and levellers. LIMMER & TRINIDAD LAKE ASPHALT CO. Ltd., and FORBES, J. W. June 21, 1950 [June 30, 1949], No. 17275/49. Class 107 A road scarifier or leveller has at least three sets of cutting blades on a vertical rotatable axle, working sections of the road contiguous with each other, at least the set of blades nearest the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle being vertically adjustable so that the machine will,work a contoured surface. Blades indicated generally at 24 are mounted in two staggered rows on the chassis and are vertically adjustable by turning hand-wheels 79 operating through screwed rod 78 and link work 74 to lift the blade assembly slidably mounted in shields 64. Front steerable wheels 21 have a hydraulic jack device to enable the chassis to be lifted up from the wheels for transport, thus preventing heaters 23, blades 24 and the grading blades 25 from contacting the ground. The front wheels, when the machine is in use, are steered, through movable links 105 by two hand wheels (not shown) one at each side of the vehicle; when the vehicle is towed the links are detached at 106, towbar 104 is dropped and the links attached to two lugs on the front axle.
