740,159. Moulding processes ; mould materials. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. June 30, 1952 [Aug. 31, 1951], No. 16446/52. Class 83 (1). In making a mould, for casting metal articles by the " lost-wax " process, the wax pattern is precoated with refractory grains in aqueous alkaline silicate, with or without glycerine, and dried; this coat is treated with a solution of a calcium, magnesium, aluminium or other metal salt, the silicate of which is insoluble in water, in a solvent which does not dissolve alkaline silicate, and finally invested with sand, binder and water. Ethyl alcohol may be used to dissolve chlorides of the above metals, acetate or benzoate of magnesium or nitrate of aluminium. Aluminium chloride may also be dissolved in carbon tetrachloride or in tetrachlorether.
