771,316. Moulding-processes. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. April 1, 1955 [April 1, 1954], No. 9649/54. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group V] In a " lost-wax " casting process for hollow articles, a preformed reinforcing member is supported within a hollow formation in the pattern prior to the investment thereof, so that investment-material flows into the space defined between the surface of the member and the internal surface of the hollow formation. The member 18 may be of silica, alumina, mullite, stainless-steel or nickel-chromium alloy &c. and is fastened by wax to the wax support 17 of the hollow wax-pattern 15, after the pattern has been coated with a refractory coating such as one comprising silica-flour, potassium-silicate solution, a solution of dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate, a non-ionic wetting- agent, a soap-solution, a mixture of high molecular-weight liquid aliphatic alcohols, and carbon tetrachloride. The investment slurry 22 is prepared from fireclay-grog containing at least 40 per cent alumina, bound with an acid sodium-silicate solution containing 3.1 per cent by volume of a hexamine solution as a gelation accelerator.
