Abstract
739,658. Protective arrangements. ALL. MANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. March 10, 1954 [March 18, 1953], No. 6939/54. Class 38 (4). In a multiple spark gap for a valve-type lightning arrester containing a plurality of similar electrode plates mounted together and spaced from each other, adjacent electrode plates overlap each other, forming spark gaps which have a mutual angular displacement around the axis of the arrester. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1A a stack of L-shaped electrodes 1a-1g, spaced by insulators or voltage grading resistors 2-4, are angularly displaced about a central axis to provide a series of spark gaps 5. In another arrangement, in which groups of spark gaps 5, Fig. 2A., are stacked alternately with non-linear resistors 9, the gaps of each group are angularly displaced and lie in approximately the same plane. As shown, the group comprises two diametrically opposite gaps and comprises three electrodes 1 insulated from one another by foils 6. Insulating spacers and grading resistors are arranged between the electrodes on either side of each gap proper. Alternatively, the resistors may lie externally of the periphery of the non-linear resistors 9. In another construction, Fig. 3, the gaps are in a ring, one behind each other in the same plane.
