Abstract
739,528. Fuel-injection apparatus. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. March 29, 1954 [April 1, 1953], No. 9056/54. Class 7(3). [Also in Group XXVIII] A fuel-injection system comprises a feed pump 8, fitted with a relief valve 9, supplying fuel through a heater or cooler 27 to the pumping chamber 4 of a fuel-injection pump which supplies an injector 13 through a throttle passage 24. The injector 13 is connected to a spill chamber 23 through a throttle passage 26. An inlet valve 14 is fitted to the chamber 4 and a spill valve 16 is fitted to the chamber 23, both valves being mechanically actuated from the piston 1 through levers 18, 22 mounted on adjustable pivots 19, 21. The cam 3, for actuating the piston 1, has a circular portion and a recess F, S, so that a long dwell occurs at the end of the delivery stroke, when both valves 14, 16 are open, the pump chamber 4 and the injector 13 are flushed with fuel. A cooler 28 may be provided in the return circuit to the tank 5. The spill valve 16 may be replaced by control surfaces on the piston 1.
