Abstract

739,452. Shovelling machines. BANCK, W., and HAEGELE, K., [trading as METALLBAU KOMM.-GES. Dr. BANCK UND HAEGELE]. Feb. 26, 1954 [Feb. 26, 1953], No. 5660/54. Class 68(1). A mobile overhead loading device for loose material comprises a scoop 13 on the end of an arm 12 pivoted to a second arm 9 pivotally mounted on a chassis 1 provided with a platform 2 on which the vehicle to be loaded is supported. The platform, Fig. 1, may comprise two girders 2 with mounting plates 3 for the wheels of the vehicle. The levers 9 and 12 are operated by hydraulic cylinders 15 and 14 respectively. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the scoop 41 is mounted on arms 35, 37 pivoted to arms 31, 34. The arm 31 is mounted to rotate freely on a shaft 28 integral with a drum 30 and its lower end is connected to a piston rod 52 having a piston moving in a cylinder 54 mounted on a rotatable base 25. The piston has a ball valve 56 and the ends of the cylinder are connected by a pipe with a valve 61. The arm 34 is pivoted to an arm 32 fixed to the shaft 28. An arm 43 is pivoted to an arm 42 secured to the shaft 28 at one end and at the other end is secured to an arm 46 pivoted to the lever 31. A rope wound on the drum 29 is pulled to rotate the drum anti-clockwise and the scoop rotates until a stop 48 on the arm 46 contacts the lever 31. If the valve 61 is then opened, the arm 31 rotates and the scoop is discharged in the vehicle. The valve 61 is closed to retain the arm 31 in position and the drum 29 can be rotated clockwise until the stop 50 on arm 35 abuts the arm 31. The valve 61 is then opened and the arm 31 returns to its original position. In a modification the pipe and valve 60, 61 are dispensed with and an oil filled cylinder pivoted to the base is urged to engage a stop on the arm 31 to limit its downward movement. The cylinder has a comperisating cylinder with a manual-operated ball valve whereby oil passes from one cylinder to the other and allows the arm to be lowered further.
