Abstract

702,161. Scoop arm shovels. WEATHERILL, April 15, 1952 [April 26, 1951], No. 9766/51. Class 78 (3) [Also in Group XXI] In a mechanical shovel in which the rotation of the scoop about its pivotal axis is effected by hydraulic means, a lost-motion device is associated with said means in such a manner that there is an initial period during the operation of said means in which the scoop is not rotated but in which a scoop-retaining latch is withdrawn by said means. The scoop is rotated by a double acting hydraulic ram 15 pivotally connected to both the frame of the machine and a lever 18 which is fulcrummed at one end 19 at an intermediate position on one of the pair of side arms 11 supporting the scoop 10, whilst the other end is pivotally connected to a rod in which is incorporated a lost-motion mechanism 29, 30, the rod being connected to the scoop. A cam 23 is attached to the lever and is engaged by a roller 26 carried at one end of a rocker-arm 24 pivotally mounted on the side arm 11 and connected at its other end with a pull-rod 28 at the end of which is the scoop-retaining latch 27.
