Abstract

739,324. Resiliently mounted abrasive discs. GUILBERT, B. TOCCI-, and HARDY, H. G. Jan. 1, 1954, No. 43/54. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXIII] A polishing or abrading tool comprises a main body portion 10 of resilient flexible material, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber, to one surface of which is bonded a top plate 11. An abrasive disc 31 is clamped between the outer face of the plate 11 and a flange 31a on a nut 15 threaded into the bore of the plate 11. Above, but not contacting, the plate 11 is a stabilizing disc 16 embedded in the body 10 and provided with a hub 17 which receives the collar 18 of driving shaft 20. The collar 18 is flattened on one or two sides and is axially tapped to receive a threaded screw 28 which holds the tool on the driving shaft ; access to the screw 28 is permitted by a bore 32 in the nut 15. A base-plate 22 is bonded to the body 10. The body 10 may comprise a soft inner portion and a hard outer portion.
