Abstract
753,938. Resiliently mounted abrasive discs. GUILBERT, B. TOCCI-. and HARDY H. G. June 18, 1954. No. 17934/54. Class 80(2) [Also in Group XXIII] A polishing or abrading tool comprises a main body portion 10 of resilient flexible material, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber, to the outer surface of which is bonded a top plate 12. An abrasive disc 25 is secured in position by a nut 15. A bottom plate 16 and a coupling collar 18, connected together e.g. by brazing, are bonded to the body 10, the coupling collar 18 having an outwardly flared part 21. The collar 18 is internally threaded for attachment to the threaded end of a driving shaft 20. The collar may be attached to the shaft by other means; when a screw and lock washer are used, an aperture 23 is left in the body 10 to permit access to the head of the screw through the central aperture in the nut 15. The resilient body may comprise a soft inner portion 10a and a hard outer portion 10b, or vice versa.
