Abstract

1384340 Hand tool handles GKN FORGINGS Ltd 5 Nov 1973 [21 Nov 1972] 53784/72 Heading B4K [Also in Division B3] A hand engageable mount for a tool or workpiece, such as a dressing tool 13 for a grinding wheel, comprises a hand engageable part 10, a tool or workpiece holder 11, and resilient means 12 interconnecting the part and holder and consisting of a yoke 16 having two generally parallel limbs 17, 18 a central web 15 disposed between the limbs and generally parallel thereto, and a resilient member 19, 19a interposed between each limb and the central web, the yoke and the web each being rigid with a respective one of the hand engageable part and the holder. As described, the holder 11 carries a dressing tool 13 rotatable about a pivot 14, and the web 15 is connected to the limbs 17, 18 of the yoke 16 by resilient means in the form of rubber bobbins 19, 19a, the ends of which are secured to plates having studs 22 for securing to the web and limbs. A handle 10 extends from the yoke. The bobbins reduce vibrations transmitted from the tool to the handle in use. In other embodiments instead of rubber bobbins, the assembly is moulded into a block of rubber or blocks of rubber are disposed between the web and limbs. In an alternative arrangement, the yoke is rigid with the tool holder and the web is rigid with the handle.
