Abstract

739,245. Glass filaments. OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLAS CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 1605/54. Class 56. In the making of multifilament glass strand, the constituent filaments are all engaged simultaneously and attenuated by passing between coacting pulling elements each of which has an undulatory resilient surface with the higher portions of the undulations of each element in contact with the lower portions of the other element. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the rubber or like tyre 18 of each pulling element 15 is formed with substantially sinusoidal projections 19 and depressions 20 interengaging as shown. In Fig. 3 the tyre 23 has alternating projections 24 having arcuate profiles, and cylindrical depressions 25. In Fig. 6 semi-cylindrical resilient plugs 31 are mounted in apertures in the tyre 30, and in Fig. 8 an annular resilient band 122 is mounted in slots in projections 119.
