Abstract
<PICT:0739154/III/1> An organic film is formed on a surface in a cathode ray tube (see Group XL (a)) envelope by introducing a mist of a solution of the film material in such a way that it does not directly impinge on the surface and then allowing the mist to settle. The solvent then evaporates to leave the film. The mist is introduced through a tube 4 having a closed end with side apertures 6. The other end 5 is at an angle to the axis of the tube. A spray gun 3 is inserted into the end 5. The mist is allowed to settle on the fluorescent screen 2 by inverting the envelope. The fluorescent screen is first wetted by low pressure steam. Any excess moisture is dispersed by centrifugal action either before or during formation of the film. The envelope may be rotated slowly in an inverted position with its axis at an angle to the vertical. The organic material may be nitro-cellulose or a polyacrylate or polystyrene resin.
