Abstract
738,514. Extruding. SCHLOEMANN AKT.- GES. March 25, 1953 [April 9, 1952], No. 8207/53. Class 83 (4). An extrusion press for making aluminium tubes, particularly for sheathing cables with aluminium, has two billet receivers 3, 4, with their axes disposed laterally to the axis of the extrusion die 1, for receiving billets 5c, 5b respectively, which are pressed by rams 6c, 6b, connected to hydraulic pistons 7c, 7b, and a throttle valve V for controlling the supply of pressure liquid to one piston 7c is controlled in dependence upon the speed of the other piston 7b so that the same quantity of aluminium is fed from both receivers. The billets are of equal cross-sectional areas and the piston 7c is larger in diameter than the piston 7b. Toothed racks 13, 14 connected to the rams 6b, 6c act upon coaxial pinions 15, 16 to which pointers 17, 18 are attached. When the speeds of extrusion from the two receivers are equal the pointers are in step but any deviation in speed causes one pointer to move ahead of the other pointer, thereby indicating the deviation to an operator who adjusts the throttle valve V accordingly. Alternatively the throttle may be operated automatically by electrical devices controlled by the pointers. In another embodiment the billets are of equal volume but different crosssectional areas and the hydraulic pistons are of equal diameter. Specification 702,505 is referred to.
