[Also in Group XXX] A wrapping machine having article-receiving pockets, e.g. pockets in an intermittently-rotating wrapping wheel, comprises a conveyer for feeding the articles toward the pockets, means for transfering the articles in succession from the conveyer into the pockets, a vibratory device for feeding a continuous succession of articles to the conveyer, means associated with the conveyer for removing surplus articles fed thereto, and a device adapted to detect the absence of articles from the conveyer and upon such detection to render the wrapping machine inoperative. As shown, sweets 11 are fed from a vibrating feed device 12 down a shoot 13 to a belt conveyer 14 which carries them (normally in close single file) along a guide channel 16 to a discharge station where they move in succession into a channel 17 from which they are fed into the pockets of a wrapping wheel 18 by a reciprocating pusher 21 of known kind which is caused to dip during its return stroke. A pivoted feeler 22 which normally rests on the sweets passing along the channel, has an arm 23 which operates a micro-switch 24 to stop the machine temporarily if a gap occurs in the file of sweets. A rotary brush 26, driven by a motor 28, is arranged to sweep surplus sweets from the conveyer into a container 27. The device 12 is of the kind in which the sweets are fed upwardly from a circular container along a spiral path 29 leading to the shoot 13. An auxiliary vibrating feed device, having a discharge channel 32, is provided for supplying sweets to the container from a hopper 33 and is controlled by a micro-switch 36 operated by a feeler 34 in the container to maintain the sweets therein at a predetermined level.
