Abstract

1,231,347. Cigarette batch feeding apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK FR. NIEPMANN & CO. 28 May, 1969 [2 July, 1968], No. 26847/69. Heading B8C. Apparatus for feeding a batch of cigarettes to a cigarette-packing machine, comprises a support base 2 beneath the discharge end of a feed hopper 1 which has at least one nozzle 8a on its internal wall directed towards the discharge end of the hopper and is arranged for connection to a supply of compressed gas 9, discharge of which from the, or each, nozzle serves to accelerate the fall of cigarettes within the hopper. As shown, a number of shoots 3 extend between the front and back plates la, 1b of the hopper 1, the base-plate 2 supporting each batch of cigarettes as it is pushed, by a reciprocating ejector 4, into an arbor 5. After receiving a batch of cigarettes the arbor 5 is lowered so that a flight 7a on a conveyer chain 7 moves the batch out of the arbor and along a packer feed track 6. A batch of cigarettes falls squarely upon the base-plate 2 as the ejector 4 is completely withdrawn from the hopper and an L-shaped retainer plate 10 is simultaneously swung up clear of the shoots 3, the fall of the cigarettes being accelerated by supplying, at the same time, a brief supply of compressed air through the nozzles 8a. A compressed-air pipe 8, fitted with a valve, not shown, and having a series of nozzles 8a, is fitted to the front and back plates la, 1b of the shoot, the valve being opened briefly, e.g. by rotating cam mechanism, while the ejector is in the retracted position.
