737,988. Printing machines. COLOR METAL AKT.-GES. Dec. 30, 1953 [May 22, 1953], No. 36247/53. Class 100 (2). In damping apparatus in which damping medium is fed from a reservoir by a ductor to a non-reciprocating distributer roller and thence to a roller or rollers in contact with the printing surface, the duct or consists of a cylindrical rotor of brushes removably mounted, parallel to the rotor axis and successively in axial direction to form peripherally-spaced rows, so that their position and number may be adjusted to control the amount of damping medium fed. Between the ductor and the brass distributer roller an additional roller may be inserted, and this roller and the rollers in contact with the printing surface may be mounted on swinging arms for tripping the apparatus. In the ductor shown, which may be driven intermittently (e.g. by pawl and ratchet) or continuously, the shanks 10a of strip-like nylon &c. brushes 10 are clamped to the sides of grooves in the rotor body 11 by clamp strips 13 held by screws 13<SP>1</SP>; the abutting ends of adjacent brushes in a row may be inclined to avoid a gap in the damping medium feed.
