Abstract

737,973. Traitors; vehicle body mountings. CIOCCA, G. Sept. 23, 1953 [Sept. 24, 1952], No. 26241/53. Classes 108 (1) and 108 (2). A semi-trailer having a body which may be removed from the tractor 3 and bogie 5, Fig. 1, and transported on a railway truck, is mounted on king-pins 2 and 6 on the tractor and bogie respectively. In a modification, Fig. 2, the king-pins 2 and 6 are at different distances from the line of action of the C.G., so that the tractor may take a smaller proportion of the load than the bogie 5, and alternative king-pins 2a and 6a are provided for use when the trailer is to be towed by a tractor hitched to the end BD. Latches 7 and 8 are provided for locking the body to the bogie and tractor respectively, locking of latch 8 with simultaneous unlocking of the latch 7 conditioning the vehicle for backing. The body is provided with two landing gears 10, 11, pivotable about 22, 23 and provided with rollers 24, 25 serving to support the body on release from the tractor 3 and bogie 5.
