Abstract

737,718. Spring frames for motor-cycles. PIATTI, S. P. V. Aug. 28, 1951 [Sept. 1, 1950], No. 15723/53. Divided out of 737,652. Class 136(3). In a motor cycle having a rear wheel 7 driven by an engine 8, the rear wheel axle 12 being mounted in a member that is pivotally mounted in the vehicle body 1 about a fulcrum axis 36 parallel to the axis of the wheel, a helical tension spring 38 is provided between a point 39 on the pivotally movable member and a fixing 42 on the vehicle body, means being provided for adjusting the position of the fixing 42 in such a manner that, if the axle 12 is restrained from moving relative to the body 1, such adjustment will stretch or contract the spring and simultaneously increase or decrease, respectively, the length of the perpendicular distance between the fulcrum point 36 and the direction of action of the spring. The pivotally movable member consists of the engine 8, crank case 9 and a gear box 10 from one side of which the axle 12 projects. The member 42 is adapted to pass through a vertical slot 41 in a block 40 attached to the vehicle body 1. A transverse bar 43 is provided on the member 42 to engage in one of a plurality of transverse slots 44 in the block 40 and is secured by means of screws.
