737,688. Centrifugal and axial-flow blowers. CHIRON-WERKE GES. Jan. 26, 1953 [Jan. 25, 1952], No. 2235/53. Class 110 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] A low-pressure axial-flow or radial-flow blower for paint-spraying appliances is driven through transmission gearing by an induction motor, the blower, gearing and motor being housed in a common casing. An induction motor 4, Fig. 1, drives a two-stage blower through pulleys 8 and a V-belt 9. The larger pulley 8 may be split, as shown, the two parts of the pulley being spaced apart by interchangeable inserts 29 to provide adjustment of the belt tension. Guide blades 18 are carried by discs 19, 20 which are spaced apart by a ring 21 and held in place in a recess in the discharge orifice 12 by a cover 13 having a discharge opening 30. A similar cover 13 is provided at the suction end of the casing 1 and may incorporate an air filter. Openings 16 in a partition 15 may be so formed as to impart whirl to the air. A recess 22 is bridged by a handle 23 which may be removable or formed integral with the casing 1. The last set of guide blades may be replaced by a radial or tangential passage in the adjacent cover 13. To permit the use of several paint-spraying appliances, several discharge openings may be provided, those not in use being closed by screw caps. The blower may comprise a single axial-flow stage. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the blower is driven through friction gearing comprising rubber-covered wheels 24, 25. The motor casing 3 is pivoted at 26 and the wheel 25 is pressed against wheel 24 by a compression spring 27 having an adjustable abutment screw 28. The pivot 26 may be located at the blower shaft bearing 7. The pivoted motor mounting may be used in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, in which case the compression spring 27 is replaced by a tension spring, or compression springs are placed between the motor and the recess 22. Alternatively the positions of the pivot 26 and spring 27 may be transposed.
