Abstract

737,283. Hot-water boilers. SOUTH EASTERN GAS BOARD. Jan. 4, 1954 [Feb. 5, 1953], No. 3290/53. Classes 64 (1) and 64 (3). A gas-heated water heater for connection to the top and bottom of a storage tank 15 comprises a shallow box-like water chamber 10 which has flow and return passages 12, 14 and an externally finned heating panel 16 on one surface. The heating panel comprises a flat casting of aluminium or gun-metal in which the edges of stainless steel strips 17 are embedded. The panel is bolted to one wall of the water chamber, with the interposition of moderately heat-conductive cement to prevent undue cooling and condensation of the combustion gases from the burner 20. The water chamber 10 and the tank 15 may be made of the same metal, e.g. copper, to reduce galvanic action. In a modification, a heat-insulating partition divides the water chamber into two vertical compartments connected together at the bottom. The flow and return passages are connected to the upper ends of the compartments. Specification 737,282 is referred to.
