Class 64(1) The parts of a gas-fired water heater that are exposed to the hot gases are made from a composite material comprising copper or a copper alloy, with a layer of stainless steel bonded to its surface. The copper can be made thinner than usual, the structural rigidity being provided by the steel. Preferably, the copper is deposited electrolytically upon the stainless steel. and for fins, which are exposed to hot gases upon both sides, the sheet is then doubled by bending to produce an arrangement with the copper layer innermost.
