Apparatus for minimizing the effects of facial senescence comprises a pair of composite layer portions each in the form of an elastic film applied entirely as a fluid to the scalp skin and in which a tab of open mesh material is embedded, and a retractor in the form of a pair of anchoring members connected by an elastic member and each having spurs for insertion into and removal from the composite layer portions, the composite layer portions being spaced from one another away from the face by a distance greater than the normal distance between the spurs. The device comprises a pair of U-shaped anchoring members 10 carrying spurs 14 which can pierce the skin without penetrating through it, the members 10 being interconnected by an elastic band 13. One anchoring member 10 is placed on the scalp near the hairline and the other on the scalp beyond the hairline so that the facial skin is tightened by the tension of the elastic band 13. A flexible resinous adhesive film in which an open-mesh fabric, e.g. organdie, may be embedded is applied as a liquid to the areas where the spurs 14 are to be applied.
