Abstract

736,653. Rod &c. couplings. GARRETT CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1953 [Sept. 22, 1952], No. 24256/53. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group XXXVI] A connector comprises a sleeve 1 split at 11 to form a number of segments and having an external buttress thread co-operating with a similar thread on a nut 2. Connection means 5 are fused on to a member 3 brazed to a flange 14 integral with the sleeve 1. In order to tighten the connector on the rod 12, the nut 2 is rotated until it engages flange 14, further rotation then causing the segments to tighten on to the rod by the camming action of the buttress thread. In another embodiment (Fig. 4) plain threads 22 and cam surfaces 21 are provided on the sleeve 20 and nut 23 instead of buttress threads.
