Abstract
Caesium phosphotungstate is precipitated from a solution of nuclear fission products in aqueous nitric acid by adding phosphotungstic acid. The precipitate may be redissolved in alkali and reprecipitated by nitric acid. Ammonium nitrate may be added to the original solution so that ammonium phosphotungstate will act as a carrier for the casium salt. A final purification may comprise the use of an ion exchange resin.
