Abstract
<PICT:0735968/III/1> <PICT:0735968/III/2> As shown, an injector for use in a carbon black furnace comprises an axially movable openended conduit 18, provided with a removable cap 20 having an orifice 22, for discharging a stream of fluid hydrocarbons forwardly therefrom, and a hollow annular header 10 coaxially disposed around the conduit having a plurality of spaced apertures 16 directed outwardly and inclined to the axis of the header for discharging hydrocarbon gas around the stream of fluid hydrocarbons, the relative positioning of the header and the angularity of the apertures being such that direct intermingling of the hydrocarbon fluid and gas streams is prevented whereby the hydrocarbon gas can mix and burn with air introduced around the injector and cause conversion of the fluid hydrocarbon into carbon black. The header may also have a plurality of uniformly spaced radially directed apertures 24 (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), around its outer periphery. The discharge apertures 16 may be inclined to the radius of the header (Figs. 3 and 6, not shown). Single orifice 22 may be replaced by a plurality of smaller orifices.
