Abstract

735,772. Sharpening machine cutters in situ. HINGLEY, A. G. Nov. 4, 1953 [Dec. 2, 1952], No. 30545/52. Class 60. A device for sharpening a knife blade of a machine, e.g. a paper guillotine, without removal from the machine, comprises a rectangular base-plate 1 having two upstanding lugs 2 supported by brackets 3. The lugs 2 accommodate a pin 4 on which pivots a tool holder in the form of a bell-crank lever 5. One arm of the lever 5 terminates in a socket 6 receiving a honing stone 7. The other arm of the lever 5 carries a pivotal nut 8 accommodating an adjusting screw 9 ; the top end of the screw carries a knob 10 and its bottom end is held against axial motion in a cross-member 11 between the brackets 3. A set-screw 14 in the central boss of the bell-crank lever 5 clamps the lever in adjusted position. A handle 12, 13 is secured to the ends of the pin 4. In a modification, the holder 5 may be provided with an attachment holding a power-driven grinding- wheel instead of the socket for the stone.
