Abstract
735,288. Hydraulic jacks. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. Feb. 23, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1951], No. 27319/51. Class 78 (3). A hydraulic pulling jack primarily intended for withdrawing pit-props, but stated to be suitable for tightening the chains of coal cutters, conveyers and other apparatus, has a manuallyoperable pump 3 which sucks liquid from the reservoir 5A through conduit 20, non-return valve 27 and conduit 29, and then pumps it through conduit 32, non-return valve 30 and conduits 33, 10 to the outer end of the jack cylinder 11. The piston 12 is thereby retracted until a port (not shown) connecting the cylinder to the reservoir is uncovered by the piston. When a needle valve 21, 21A is opened the conduit 10 communicates through conduits 26, 20 with the reservoir so allowing the piston to be reset. In various modifications (not shown) the jack is provided with a safety valve and the piston-rod may be hollow to provide an auxiliary reservoir. The closed end of the cylinder and the free end of the piston rod are respectively provided with an anchoring shackle (not shown) and a chain connector 17.
