Abstract

734,815. Platen printing presses. ROMSIDE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. June 10, 1954 [June 12, 1953], No. 16205/53. Class 100 (2). A simple printing press for use in small printing work or as a toy comprises a type casing 12 pivotally mounted on a base 10 whose upper surface provides a platen, the casing being manually swingable to dotted-line position (Fig. 1) to cause the type to bear on a sheet of paper on the platen, and a type-inking roller 20 slidably carried at the ends of arms 15 so that it moves across the face of the type during the swinging movement of the casing 12. The casing 12 and base 10 are made from sheet metal, an operating handle 14 being provided on the casing. The type 12a is mounted in slots 12b, Fig. 2, in a plate 12c detachably located in slides 13 on each side of the casing. The roller 20 has a covering of felt and the ends of its spindle engage in slots 19 formed in the ends of the arms 15. Springs connected to the spindle ends draw the roller towards the pivot point of the arms 15. At the other ends the arms 15 are connected by links 16 to the base 10 at 17. Movement of the type casing to and from printing position causes the inking roller to roll over the face of the type, the roller being received, in the printing position, in a channelshaped member 21. The paper may be retained on the platen by a clip 10a.
