Abstract

734,442. Mortising wood. KINE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and MELDRUM, E. C. March 5, 1954 [March 6, 1953], No. 6290/53. Class 145. A holder for a mortising tool having a shaped chisel 1 and an internal material-clearing drill 2 has two components 3, 4 providing positive abutments for the chisel and drill respectively, the two components being relatively adjustable to enable the cutting ends of the chisel and drill to be set at the correct axial relationship. The chisel abutment comprises a bush 5 axially adjustable in the vertically-movable tool carriage 8 by means of a nut 10 and locking screw 11 and the drill abutment may be the end of the motor spindle 12 or a socket carried by it. As shown, the drill shank 13, abutting against the end of the motor spindle, fits in a flanged bush 18 within a sleeve 15 and the sleeve is secured to the spindle by a key 16 and screw 17 and to the drill shank by a screw 14 passing through the bush 18.
