Abstract
734,245. Hose pipes. ANGUS & CO., Ltd., G., JACKSON, A. E., and SEARLE, E. H. W. May 17, 1954 [July 9, 1953], No. 19067/53. Class 99 (2). In a rubber-lined fire hose, the woven textile jacket, e.g. of cotton or flax fibres, of the hose is proofed with a fungicide and carries an elastomeric deposit derived from a latex which is film-forming when dried in air, the deposit consisting substantially of a modified polyvinylidine chloride which has been internally plasticized by copolymerization. The weight of the deposit, which may be a latex of approximately 55 per cent by weight of resin content, is at least 2.5 per cent, but preferably is between 5 and 25 per cent, of the weight of the hose. The latex may be that known as " Geon 652 " (Registered Trade Mark). Preferably, the fungicide is lauryl pentachlorphenol applied in a quantity of 1 per cent of the weight of the hose, or zinc chloride. The latex may be applied to the jacket after proofing of the latter with fungicide and prior to the introduction of the lining into the jacket, the lining preferably being reinforced by a textile carrier and introduced into the jacket by the method described in Specification 538,455; alternatively, the fungicide is mixed with the latex and the jacket is impregnated with the resulting admixture, or the fungicide is applied to the yarn before weaving the jacket. In examples described, the jacket has cotton warps and nylon wefts. To eliminate uneven darkening of the stored, coiled hose when the latex is exposed to light, the latex is pretinted by dispersion in " Vulcafor " Fast Brown B (Registered Trade Mark).
