Abstract

734,137. Step-by-step conveyers. HOCKLEY CHEMICAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1954 [Jan. 8, 1953], No. 559/53. Class 78 (1). Apparatus of the kind in which articles are dipped successively into a plurality of liquid-containing baths whilst suspended in carriers comprises a plurality of baths 4 arranged in line, each bath having a pair of arms 6 arranged to support a bar 8 carrying the baskets 9, and is provided with means to turn the arms automatically after a predetermined interval of time to deposit the bar 8 on the arms associated with the next bath, and means automatically brought into operation on the turning of the arms to retain the bar on the arms until it is in the position to rest on the next set of arms. The pairs of arms 6 are carried on transverse shafts 5 and support the bar 8 in a recess 7. A slide 10 is provided which, when in extender position, prevents the bar 8 from falling out of the recess. A shaft 12 drives cams 14 through worms (Fig. 2). The cam wheel 14 has an indulating periphery which causes the link 30 (through a roller follower 15 on the arm 16) to agitate the articles in the bath through the gears 22, 23. A further roller 25 enters the slot 26 in the arm 16 once per revolution, rotating the arms 16 through 180 degrees to transfer the work to the next bath. A segmental plate 27 is provided at the appropriate point in the cam-wheel 14 to provide a smooth surface for cam 15 to contact, thus preventing the agitating motion of the arms 6 when they are about to receive a bar 8. A further arm 35 is actuated by a cam plate 33 and through the linkage 38, 40 opens the slide 10 at the appropriate time to transfer the bar 8 to the next successive pairs of arms.
