Abstract
802,816. Endless conveyers. NEWMAN, HENDER & CO., Ltd., and CARTER, E. L. July 2, 1956 [July 4, 1955], No. 19292/55. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] An apparatus for transferring eggs from moulded egg trays to a grading-machine comprises an intermittently moving conveyer B passing beneath means D for picking up a transverse line of eggs and depositing them on a conveyer C for passage to the conveyer G of the grading-machine. The filled egg trays (not shown) are deposited by slats 84 of an endless conveyer E on to the conveyer B where rods 58 engage in depressions in their undersides to locate them. The means D comprises a series of suction-cups 47 mounted on a head 55 carried by arms 43. The arms 43 are fixed to a shaft which is oscillated on its axis by crank, rack-andpinion elements 35, 38, 39. The head 55 is swung relative to its arms 43 by pinions and chain 48, 49, 57, the pinion 57 being fixed and the pinion 48 secured to the head. Suction is controlled by a cam-operated valve 52. The conveyer C is continuously moving and comprises rotatable rubber bobbins 77 of known form. Eggs deposited on it are delivered to a series of transfer members F on an endless chain 101 and having apertures 106 into which the eggs are dropped while the members are tilted towards the exit of the conveyer C by cam and follower elements 108, 107. As the members F move towards the conveyer G their followers 107 pass off the end of the cam 108 and they tilt towards this conveyer to eject their eggs on to it. A cam-operated micro-switch 111 ensures that the machine can be stopped only when the various devices are in a definite position ensuring security of the eggs.
