Abstract

890,102. Egg transfer apparatus. BRECKNELL, DOLMAN & ROGERS Ltd. Oct. 5, 1959 [Oct. 16, 1958], No. 33058/58. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4). [Also in Group XVII] Eggs are transferred by suction from trays 8 on conveyer 7 to discharge conveyer 6 by means of transfer apparatus. The apparatus has four arms 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D carried by hollow shaft 4 and each arm carries cups 10. The drive from chain 24 passes from shaft 23 via bevel gearing 22 to shaft 21 and thus drives cam 25 and 32 and step-by-step Geneva mechanism 18, 19, 20. Cam 25 causes up-and-down movement of shaft 4 via linkage 26, 27, 28, and Geneva mechanism 18, 19, 20 causes step-by-step rotation of the same shaft 4. Cam 32 causes operation of valves 15 of the cups 10 via linkage 34, 37, shaft 38, cam 39, and linkage 42, 43, and operating bar 44. Operation.-Arm 2B descends so that cups 10 fit over a row of eggs in tray 8. At this moment bar 44 descends to operate valves 15 to allow air to escape from the respective cups. The eggs are then held by suction in the respective cups. The apparatus then rotates step-by-step till arm 2B is positioned over discharge conveyer 6. The arm 2B then descends and at the same time bar 44 descends to operate valves 15 to cause the cups 10 to release the respective eggs. The eggs fall on to arms 45 which pivot to push the row of eggs on to conveyer 6. The other arms 2B, 2C, 2B act similarly. Second embodiment.-The cups 10 are supplied with artificially-created suction so that the eggs are both held and released under positive air pressure from a vacuum pump.
