Abstract

Lithographic printing-plates made of metal, such as zinc or aluminium, are treated, to improve adhesion of water thereto, with an aqueous solution prepared by dissolving a mixture of solid ammonium biphosphate and solid ammonium nitrate in water, and adding to the solution a second mixture of one or more solid chromium salts and one or more solid silico-fluorides. The proportions and substances used may be, for example:-ammonium biphosphate 2 parts, ammonium nitrate 2 parts, water 80 parts, sodium silico-fluoride 1 part, chromic chloride 1 part. The solution is flowed over the plate, which is rubbed lightly with a sponge or cotton-wool for 2-3 minutes.
