Abstract

A process for the production of alloys in strip form comprises heating an alloy in wire form and having a body centred or a face centred crystal lattice to a homogenizing temperature, quenching, drawing the quenched wire to give a reduction of 60-85 per cent and rolling the wire to form a flat strip and a total decrease in cross-section of 90 per cent, the direction of highest modulus of elasticity becoming oriented substantially parallel to the direction of rolling. The wire is preferably drawn cold. The alloy must include two of the metals iron, nickel and cobalt and may be an alloy in the range Ni 0-68, Fe 0-75, Co 0-50, Cr 10-30, Mo and/or W 0-30, Be 0-3, Ti 0-5, C 0-0.6, Mn 0-20, Si 0-4 and niobium 0-10 per cent. After rolling the strip may be heat treated between 200 DEG C. and 600 DEG C. for not more than 24 hours. The strip is stated to be particularly suitable for watch springs. German Specification 833,056 is referred to.
