733,467. Double twist spindles. SOC. D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES DE MATERIEL TEXTILES. Aug. 24, 1953 [Sept. 6, 1952], No. 23305/53. Class 120(2). [Also in Group XXXIV] Apparatus including a rotary member intended to be subjected to a slowing down or braking torque has the rotary member supported by a fixed hub with a rolling bearing interposed between said hub and said member and resilient braking elements interposed between at least some of the rolling means and the races of said bearing, the braking elements being subjected to the action of adjustable thrust means acting in the axial direction and wedging the elements to a greater or lesser degree between said races so as to vary the braking effect of these elements. As shown the invention is applied to an unwinding disc 6 of a textile double twist spindle. This disc 6 is mounted on a fixed hub 4 by means of a ball bearing between at least some of the balls 11 of which are interposed resilient braking elements 14. These elements 14 are compressed by adjustable thrust means comprising a nut 16 screwed on to the hub 4 and acting upon an abutment 15 through rubber rings 17 and a thrust ball bearing 18. The elements 14 are preferably of a porous material such as sponge rubber so that they can be impregnated with a lubricant, for example, silicone.
