Abstract

681,412. Rectilinear- - motion bearings. FORSTER, L. G. Oct. 25, 1950, No. 26033/50. Class 12 (i). A rectilinear-motion bearing between members 1 and 4 comprises a guide-member 2 secured to the member 1 and having parallel V edges 5, 6 which engage the outer races 13 of ball or roller bearings mounted in pairs on spindles 7 which are secured to the member 4. Each spindle 7 is offset from the centre of a stem portion 9 by which it is bolted to the member 4, so as to provide eccentric adjusting means, a hexagon-shaped collar being provided for effecting the adjustment. As shown, each pair of inner races is clamped together by a nut 12 and the outer races 13 engage each other frictionally. Alternatively the inner races may be spaced apart by a thin washer so that the outer races 13 clear one another. Tapered roller bearings may be used.
