Abstract

733,391. Hammers. MARTIN, W. E. May 5, 1953, No. 12484/53. Class 61. An attachment for the head of a hammer comprises a hollow body provided with or carrying a supplementary striking face and having an end portion made of elastic non-metallic material having an opening therein of reduced diameter to effect a constrictive grip on the head of the hammer. As shown, a cap 3 of non-metallic material such as a moulded rubber compound is provided with an inwardly extending lip 4 which engages the neck 9 on the hammer head. In a modification an auxiliary striking face of synthetic resin or other tough material is moulded to the elastic end portion of the attachment. In another modification the attachment comprises an elastic sleeve provided with a constriction at each end, one constriction serving to hold an auxiliary striking head and the other to hold the body on the hammer.
