Abstract

A bronze alloy is made from copper and at least sufficient tin to produce an alloy having a proportion of delta phase by simultaneous reduction of a powder mixture containing at least one of the constituents in the oxide form the reduction taking place below the melting point of the resulting alloy. The alloy may contain 10-30 per cent of tin which may be made by placing the starting materials in loosely packed condition in a container and heating in a reducing atmosphere for about two hours at about 500 DEG C. The powdered alloy may be used as a binder in grinding wheels for diamond or other abrasive particles.
