Abstract

732,950. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Aug. 8, 1953, No. 21953/53. Class 103 (1). In a disc brake comprising primary actuator cylinders 47c wherein pads are engaged with the opposite sides of the disc 38, so that the frictional action therewith causes movement of the housing 42 whereby a piston 50 in a cylinder 49 integral with the housing is caused to pressurize secondary cylinders 47a and 47b by reaction from a fixed lug 48, a valve 111 automatically releases pressure from the secondary cylinders 47a and 47b into the primary cylinder 47c when the pressure in the latter is released. The valve includes an axial passage which is cut off from a passage leading to the secondary cylinder when the valve is moved against a spring by pressurisation of the primary cylinder. Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of the invention wherein movement of the torque member 58 by pressurisation of primary cylinder 113a causes operation of the secondary cylinders 113b, 112a and 112b for either direction of rotation of the member 58 through a double ended servocylinder 114. Specifications 580,878 and 688,382 are referred to.
