Abstract
732,917. Rotary brushes. GRANT, K. A., and BLACK, D. S. P. Aug. 19, 1953 [May 21, 1962], No. 12824/52. Class 19. A rotary road-sweeping brush comprises a pair of discs adjustably mounted on a shaft each having circumferentially spaced peripheral recesses with shoulders at their outer end, brush units being held in the recesses between the discs and in contact with the shoulders by releasable clamps. The brush units comprise V-shaped channel backs 8 and are clamped against the shoulders 15 of V-shaped recesses in the end plates by clamps 17 tightened by bolts 18. The plates are held between a pair of flanges 26 in a rotational position which depends on which of the holes 23 (Fig. 7) in the plate the bolts 22 are passed through. The brush units may thus be set parallel to or at an angle to the shaft. A number of brushes as described may be secured end to end by universal joints. The bristles may be of bass, horse hair, wire or strips of rubber or any hard-wearing fabric, the ends being bound with metal or other binding and held beneath an apertured plate 13.
