Abstract

732,759. Mudguards. BATTY, R. N., and AXFORD, A. S. Feb. 11, 1954 [Oct. 1, 1953], No. 26901/53. Class 136(1). A moisture excluding protector device for the flanged edges 7 of motor vehicle mudguards 8 and the like consists of a length of material shaped to such a cross-section that it can be applied over the flanged edge 7 to be protected so as to cover the whole of the outer face of the flange and substantially the whole of the inner face of the flange and a small portion of the outer face of the wing adjoining the flange, the material being sufficiently resilient to cause its longitudinal edges to be pressed against the mudguard. The protector consists of a strip, shown in Fig. 1, having an inner portion with its longitudinal edge 4 slightly tapered, a central portion 2 and an outer portion 3 with longitudinal ribs 5 and a longitudinal edge gradually tapered off to a knife edge at 6. The strip is made of rubber, springy metal or of extruded or moulded synthetic plastic material such as polyvinyl chloride. An alternative form of flange 7b is shown in Fig. 5.
