Abstract

Water-soluble sulphated material of the group consisting of higher fatty monohydric alcohols with 12 to 20 carbon atoms or unsaturated fatty esters of said higher fatty alcohols are used as lubricating coolants in processes of cold metal reduction. The solution strength is 1/2 to 10 per cent and in one example bleached sperm oil is sulphated by agitation with concentrated sulphuric acid. The solution may be mixed with one containing sulphated fatty acids of the ethylene type as described in Specification 732,734.ALSO:Water-soluble sulphated material of the group consisting of higher fatty monohydric alcohols with 12 to 20 carbon atoms or unsaturated fatty esters of said higher fatty alcohols are used as lubricating coolants in processes of cold metal reduction. The solution strength is 1/2 to 10 per cent and in one example, bleached sperm oil is sulphated by agitation with concentrated sulphuric acid. The solution may be mixed with one containing sulphated fatty acids of the ethylene type as described in Specification 732,734.
