Abstract

1,189,226. Separation of fatty acids. HENKEL & CIE G.m.b.H. 6 July, 1967, No. 31164/67. Heading C2C. Mixtures of fatty acids, or esters and alcohols, are separated in a crystallization process which is carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the mixture is cooled, preferably in the absence of water, so that only a part of the solid crytallizes; in the second stage a further reduction in temperature of the slurry formed in the first stage is caused by dispersing this slurry in aqueous wetting agent solution which is cooler than the slurry. Examples describe the separation of mixtures of distilled tallow fatty acids and of cotton seed oil fatty acids. The cooled wetting agent comprises magnesium sulphate and sodium decyl sulphate.
