Abstract
The invention comprises ester-salts of phosphoric acid of the general formula <FORM:0732561/IV (b)/1> in which R1 is an alkyl group containing not more than 12 carbon atoms and R2 is an optional alkyl substitutent in the ortho position to the group containing the phosphorus atom. Such compounds are obtained by dissolving the corresponding p-tertiary octyl-phenyl alkyl hydrogen phosphate or its alkyl derivative in a molecular equivalent of sodium hydroxide solution, adding the resulting solution to an excess of the aqueous solution of a water-soluble cobaltous salt, and filtering and drying the resulting precipitate. An example describes the preparation of cobaltous p-tertiary octylphenyl ethyl phosphate by this method. The products may be used as wetting agents for pigments in non-aqueous liquids, driers for drying oils, surface tension reducing agents and plasticizers. Specifications 699,080 and 713,757 are referred to. The Provisional Specification also states that R1 may represent a halogen or hydroxy derivative of the alkyl group specified.ALSO:Cobalt ester-salts of phosphoric acid of the formula <FORM:0732561/III/1> in which R1 is an alkyl group containing not more than 12 carbon atoms and R2 is an optional alkyl substituent in the ortho position to the group containing the phosphorus atom may be used as wetting agents for pigments in non-aqueous liquids and as driers for drying oils. The preparations of such compounds is described (see Group IV (b). Specifications 699,080 and 713,757 are referred to. The Provisional Specification also refers to halogen or hydroxy derivatives of alkyl groups as being represented by R1.
