Abstract
732,507. Very-high-frequency filters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 12, 1953, No. 6838/53. Class 40 (8). A very-high-frequency filter comprises a number of coaxial half-wavelength resonators 1, 2, 3, &c.,' each coupled to a transverse structure 10 by means of which connection can be made to a line, in which the distance between the structure 10 and the electrical end 8 of each resonates farthest from the structure 10 determines the mid-frequency of the filter and the distance between the structure 10 and the nearer electrical end 7 of each resonator determines the band width. The electrical ends 7, 8 of either branch of each resonator comprise movable bridges by which the necessary adjustments for band width and mid-frequency, which are interdependent, may be made after the filter has been set. up The frequency-adjusting bridge of the centre resonator may have to be set a little nearer the coupling point than the other bridges. At frequencies below 200 Mc/s. where the size of a half-wavelength resonator is rather large, the length may be reduced by lumped capacitative loading. The coupling between the filter and the line is preferably inductive and consists of a short length of coaxial line or of a conductor 9. The tuning range may be varied by means of interchangeable conductors 9 of different diameters. Below 200 Mc/s. the coupling may be capacitative.
